A key variable in making a great shot of espresso is achieving a consistent tamp. Tamping your grounds unevenly, or with too little or too great of a tamping pressure, will cause the water to extract through your grounds inconsistently, resulting in poor quality espresso. Unevenly tamped grounds can cause cracks or channels in the coffee puck during extraction, and tamping too hard or too soft and cause the shot to pull too slow, or too fast.

This adjustable coffee distribution tool and tamper is a simple and effective way to remove those variables from the equation.

Use the distribution/leveling side to evenly distribute the grounds in your portafilter, then flip to the adjustable tamper side for a uniform tamp, every time.

Quick, easy and consistent.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:

STEP 1 – Load your portafilter basket with the desired amount of freshly ground coffee.
STEP 2 – Retract the distributor side to it’s shallowest depth, and place the distributor on your portafilter, blade side down.
STEP 3 – Gently spin the distributor until your coffee grounds have been evenly distributed and leveled. If the distributor does not reach the coffee, adjust the depth accordingly. Note: you do not want to be applying heavy pressure to the grounds at this stage — only enough to level the coffee in the basket.
STEP 4 – Flip the distributor over and extend the tamper (flat side) to its maximum height. Tamp your grounds to your desired pressure.
STEP 5 – For consistent tamping every time, adjust the tamper depth so it matches the depth of the tamp you created in Step 4.

Yes it fits my La Spaziale Vivaldi II 53 mm portafilter So the big question was would the leveler actually fit my Spaziale portafilter and I’m hkappy to report that it is perfect width. The leveler is very well made and is adjustable for depth. Unfortunately it was not quite deep enough to use both sides tamper and leveler. This is not really an issue with me because I simply adjusted the leveler to be deep enough that I don’t even need to tamp. After I got it to the correct I pulled a shot in a blind basket and it pulled perfectly in 30…

Really nice hefty distributor/leveler for 54mm Portafilters. Really nice heavy leveler for my breville infuser, finally getting the consistency I desire. The process now is not only faster but much harder to screw up. The only thing I am somewhat worried about is the scraping of the top of the basket with the leveler however I don’t find any metal shavings and the paint stays black, keep in mind I only did 5 shots with it so far. I will edit this review if the black paint will start to come off around the scraping part after 50 or 100 shots in the…

Get one! Awesome product for oddball Breville 53mm ID basket. Just what a needed for my Breville Barista Express! These are impossible to find in 53mm!Once you get it adjusted (easy) to the depth of your “Razor” on the distributor side, you are good to go and have a tamper on the flip side. The device has a great weight to it so you don’t have to apply any pressure during distribution. Just turn until it’s level, and add more coffee if you are under weight. Flip it for a quick final tamp, and pull your shot. Easy-peasy…
